Bobby Bones Says Coyotes Have Taken Over His Backyard

Bobby Says Coyotes Have "Taken Over" His Backyard After Dog Attack

Bobby Bones is dealing with some unexpected backyard neighbors.

During Monday's show, Bobby shared the scary story of how his dog Eller may have been attacked by a coyote while exploring the woods behind his house. At first, Bobby thought something much more common in his Arkansas upbringing was to blame.

"I thought she got bit by a snake," Bobby admitted.

Eller, who is part hound and loves chasing rabbits through the woods, came running out of the trees acting strangely. A few hours later, she was limping badly and eventually couldn't put any weight on one of her legs.

Concerned about the injury, Bobby texted a close family friend who also happens to be their veterinarian. While trying to figure out what happened, his wife Kaitlin spotted something outside.

"There's something in the backyard," she told him.

That's when Bobby looked outside and saw a large coyote standing on the property.

But the surprise didn't stop there.

As he began recording the animal on his phone, several baby coyotes suddenly emerged from the woods.

"For a second you're like, 'Aw,'" Bobby said. "And then I remembered, she's on our property. She just attacked our dog."

Bobby rushed Eller to the vet, where she received treatment and medication. While she's improving, recovery has been a slow process.

The bigger issue is what happened next.

When Bobby went back outside the following day, he discovered the coyotes hadn't gone anywhere.

"The coyotes now own the yard," he joked. "They planted a flag in our yard and said, 'We live here.'"

Because the animals have become so comfortable around the property, Bobby hasn't been able to let his dogs roam freely in the backyard. Instead, they've been limited to a small area of grass while he figures out the next step.

Bobby says he's hoping to find a trapper who can safely relocate the coyotes rather than kill them.

"I don't want them to kill the coyotes," he explained. "I want them to come and trap them and take them and release them somewhere else."

What makes the situation even more unusual is how fearless the coyotes seem to be. Bobby said he walked toward them expecting them to run away, but they simply stood their ground and stared back at him.

Meanwhile, he's preparing for the internet's reaction after posting video of the encounter.

"I'm worried I'm going to post this video and everybody's going to have sympathy for the coyote puppies," Bobby said.

Cute or not, Bobby isn't taking any chances. Until the coyote family moves out, Eller and the rest of the dogs will be staying much closer to home.
