122 Million People Planning To Travel For The Upcoming Holiday Season

The 2021 holiday season will see more travelers than last year, according to a new survey. The poll, conducted by SurveyMonkey on behalf of The Vacationer, asked 1,092 adults about their upcoming holiday travel plans and the results suggest that 122-million Americans will be heading somewhere to celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. That’s up 13.54% from last year.

As for how folks will be getting to where they’re going, the survey shows:

  • More than half (60.7) will be traveling by car
  • 12.72% will be flying
  • And just 3.93% will be traveling on some form of public transportation

The survey reveals how far Americans plan to travel during the December holidays:

  • More than a third (37.15%) will only be going between one and 99 miles
  • About one in five (19.3%) plan to travel between 100 and 499 miles
  • And nearly 8% will be going between 500 and 999 miles or more than 1,000 miles

According to the poll, this is how much people expect their holiday travels to cost:

  • 40% think they’ll spend $500 or less on gas, flights, hotels, and tickets
  • Just over one in 10 (11.07%) expect to spend between $501 and $1,000
  • And 12.26% believe their holiday travel will be more than $1,000
