Caroll Spinney Is Big Bird: Behind The Puppet (WATCH)

Caroll Spinney, the creator and puppeteer behind Sesame Street's Big bird & Oscar the Grouch brought so much joy to generations of children, and in wake of his passing, here's a look at he mechanics of Big Bird and how he brought the big yellow bird to life. Who knew playing Big Bird was so complicated? Spinney actually wore the Big Bird costume while simultaneously controlling the wings and face, reading the script inside the costume and watching a monitor to check what the audience at home was seeing. A few of the other puppeteers who played Big bird described some of their physical ailments due to the demanding nature of the costume, and joked about how grateful they were that Spinney wasn't on set that day.
