School Board Says No Extracurricular Events For Kids With Unpaid Lunch Debt

The Cherry Hill Board of Education in Cherry Hill, New Jersey is trying to figure out how to deal with thousands of dollars in unpaid lunch debt, and their latest solution is banning kids with unpaid lunch debt from extracurricular activities like prom & field trips.

The school district's new lunch policy will allow students who fail to pay for lunch a hot lunch from the meal of the day menu, but no a la carte items. The new policy also states that students who do not pay their lunch debt after repeated requests will be prohibited from extracurricular activities as well. The old policy stated that students in the district who owed more than $10 would only be allowed tuna sandwich meals. Students didn’t receive any food if they owed $20 or more.

What do you think of a policy like this?
