Yesterday, I was reading about someone who says they've been getting a little depressed lately, seeing all the back to school ads on television. That's what happens in August. This person was not excited about getting back into a routine where you have to try to coax the kids out of bed and out the door Monday thru Friday. The mind reels just thinking about carpools and soccer practice and everything else that goes along with a new school year. Someone else was talking about how hard it was to go back to work after being away on vacation. Re-entry can be unsettling because transitions can be unsettling. My husband has been out in California this week helping our recently graduated daughter Paris, pack up her apartment, the place she has called home for the last three years. They have both been a little sad. The two of them found that apartment together three years ago and I can remember how excited they were when they called me to tell me about it before I flew out to join them. Paris has been saying good-bye to the friends she's made on the west coast these last couple of days and yesterday she said good-bye to that cute apartment with the retro bathroom and kitchen (be sure to check out the photos). Places can capture our hearts, vacation spots, college dorms or apartments and for sure home. These are the places we make memories. I hope we'll all embrace these last few weeks of summer to the full wherever the road takes us. I'm going to try my best.
