Laurie Celebrates Her Daughter-In-Law To Be On International Women's Day!

So there’s been a lot of talk lately about whether Kylie Jenner is actually a “self-made” billionaire as Forbes recently named her, because she had the advantage of being born into a very famous family. This is not an argument I care about. I support all women who are making a mark in their own way. Whether they are billionaires or not. But today, on International Women’s Day I want to talk about a young woman who regularly inspires me with her passion and creativity. She is not a Jenner or Kardashian. She’s Emily Boulin and this October she will become my first ever daughter-in-law.

I recently watched Em being interviewed on FOX 45 about “spring trends” for women’s hair. She is a stylist and she is getting noticed here in Baltimore. She often works with Baltimore Magazine on their spring and fall fashion spreads. She was a Best of Baltimore winner in that same magazine, given “best colorist” honors. She’s also been a CosmoPro Beauty nominee for “best updo” and placed in the top five for “best short haircut.” Emily shares a lot of hair care tips with others thru social media and enjoys teaching women about how she gets such amazing results. You’ll have to check her out on Instagram at @emilyboulinhair.

This might just sound like just a proud mother in law to be, shamelessly promoting a soon to be relative, but what I know to be true about Emily is, none of this was handed to her, she had a vision for what she wanted to do, she worked hard to get where she is and she is still working hard toward new goals in her life and in her business. She is passionate about what she does and works tirelessly to give her clients the look they’re after. When I ask her questions about her work, she comes alive and her mind races in a million different directions with new ideas. Whenever I look at the work she does, I say to myself, “that is absolutely art.” If you know her, you know what I mean. Someday I’ll get up the nerve to ask her do a mysterious “Game of Thrones” look on me, haven’t decided on the color yet but am picturing braids in the mix somewhere. So here’s to you Emily and all women who are in business for themselves, I know there are unique challenges that come with that, but what a sense of satisfaction you must feel knowing that you have built something substantial on your own. I salute you today!
