When 'Avatar' first hit theaters back in 2009 it was an experience. 3-D movies were all the rage and 'Avatar' did it better than anyone ever had, or has since. When you went to the theater to see 'Avatar' you were in for an incredible time. I can't even describe the kind of feelings that I had sitting in that theater. That being said, take the immersive experience of the film away and 'Avatar' is just a basic film. They weren't exactly breaking any boundaries there. The draw to the film was the theater experience.
But it's been 13 years since the first film came out, and 3-D movies aren't a thing anymore. Hollywood finally realized, and accepted, that the audience had no interest in them. So, will 'Avatar: The Way Of The Water' still pull in the cash that the first film did? James Cameron and Disney seem to think so. In the last decade between the two films, Disney built an entire new park in Orlando and Cameron has continued dumping money into the franchise. I have doubts that this one will be as successful. Something tells me that it could end up being a huge flop.
We'll have to wait and see what happens. We did get the first official trailer for 'Avatar: The Way Of The Water' which you can watch below.
