For the first 7 months of my daughter's life I was broadcasting from home. She spent every morning laying next to me in her crib while I jabbered on about whatever was on my mind. Little did I know at the time that I was doing her a favor.
Science and research has been proving without a doubt that talking to our kids is invaluable to their growth. Whether it's talking to an infant or toddler who probably can't understand you, or trying to have a conversation with a grumpy teenager, these conversations are so important. Speech pathologist, and Harvard lecturer, Rebecca Rolland has been studying this for years. She recently published a book called 'The Art Of Talking With Children: The Simple Keys To Nurturing Kindness, Creativity, and Confidence in Kids.'
Through scientific research, Rebecca has found that engaging in 'rich talk' with your kids can promote curiosity, confidence and empathy for others. She also offers very easy to adopt habits to help you create these connections with your kids. I spoke with Rebecca in the latest episode of my Adult Education Podcast. Enjoy!
