When I was in high school (95-99) I was really into the local underground music scene. At that time CD's were still really expensive for a small high school/local band to produce. So a lot of artists put out vinyl singles. We called them '7 inches' but they were essentially what used to be known as '45's'. This was the most cost effective way for some of these artists to get music out to people. So I've been buying vinyl records since I was a teenager.
As the way we listen and consume music has changed over the years there has been a huge shift to digital consumption. CD sales have almost entirely disappeared and streaming has become the dominant force. But vinyl records have been mounting a comeback. Over the last 20 years vinyl record sales have seen an increase in each year. And it's been getting even bigger in recent years with new stores popping up and the popularity of 'Record Store Day' gaining steam.
I just came across a trailer for a documentary on vinyl and I think it looks great. What do you think? I can't wait to watch it.
