Chicago Man Convicted Of Murder Off Testimony By Man Who Is Legally Blind

Imagine you're 18 years old and you are accused of murder. There is one key witness that says he can identify you as the person who pulled the trigger. You get convicted. Now it's 8 years later and you find out that man who picked you out was actually legally blind.

That's what happened to Darien Harris.

Harris was found guilty of murder and sent to prison for 76 years based on the testimony of Dexter Saffold. There was no physical evidence connecting Harris to the shooting, and there was no jury in the trial. The judge heard Saffold's testimony, considered him an honest witness, and sent Harris away for decades.

Only problem here is that Saffold had been deemed legally blind years earlier by his doctors and the U.S. government. How could he clearly see that Harris was the shooter when he couldn't clearly see anything?

Now, I have no idea if Harris was the killer. Maybe he was. But I certainly think he deserves a new trial if this was the testimony that put him away.
