I like to think that all of us have an instinct that we want to help if we see someone in trouble. Clearly, that is not the case for everyone.
Five teenagers in Florida noticed a man struggling in a pond. They took out their camera and started to film while they laughed and taunted him. They never offered help and didn't call 911.
The man drowned, and his body was not found for days.
Immediately upon hearing this story I thought they had to be charged with some kind of crime. But no. According to Florida state law, there is no law in place that requires a person to help or call for help for a victim in distress.
Police are not giving up. There is a law that requires any person who is aware of a death to report it. Authorities are trying to get the teens charged under that law.
If you click the link below, you can find the video in question. I thought about posting it here but it's too disturbing for me. What ever happened to human decency? I'm not saying someone HAS TO put their life in danger to help someone else, but at least call 911 for help. To laugh and almost cheer at his death is almost unbelievable.
