Maddi Runkles was a model student. She worked hard all through high school and is ready to finish her career with a 4.0 GPA. You'd think she'd be celebrating and getting ready for the next step in life.
But Maddi is pregnant.
She found out about the pregnancy in January. She didn't want to deceive her peers or teachers, so she told the school. Officials at Heritage Academy in Hagerstown immediately forced her to step down from her leadership roles and was suspended for two days. Also, they decided to ban her from graduation.
They say she violated the school's code of conduct by having premarital sex. But, the private Christian school is very pro-life. Maddi feels they are sending a very strange message to students who find themselves in a tough position.
"Some pro-life people are against the killing of unborn babies, but they won't speak out in support of the girl who chooses to keep her baby."
