You'd think that a police officer would cherish his/her time off-duty. The job can be stressful enough without another job to worry about. But not South Carolina Master Deputy Mike Gibson. He used some of his off-duty time to work as a school resource officer.
Gibson loved the opportunity to be around the children and help show them that police are their friends. The children looked up to him, one more than the others. The little boy went from calling him "Officer" to "Officer Dad" to just plain "Dad."
He grew attached to the young boy and soon found out that he had been in and out of foster homes. Because of his behavior, the boy had been considered 'unadoptable." That's when Gibson knew he had to take action.
He went home to his wife and told her that they needed to become his foster parents.
"He said, 'In all my hears in law enforcement, I've never felt led to do something, but I feel like God's telling me that we can help this one.' So, I was on board," said his wife.
But the story didn't end there...
