Matt Cohen co-founded SIMPL alongside his wife and co-founder Sarela Herrada in 2020. Matt and Sarela are on a mission to create a new gold standard in our food system, building scaleable, regenerative organic supply chains to bring the highest quality, single-origin products to US consumers.
Born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland, Matt developed an entrepreneurial drive and a passion to do meaningful work at an early age. A graduate of the Salisbury University Perdue School of Business, he spent over a decade developing his robust finance career, working in the Capital Markets Group at Fannie Mae and managing corporate development and innovation at Choice Hotels International.
Matt brings his expertise in finance and strategy to ethically source nutrient-dense, pantry staples from South America, Europe and beyond. SIMPLi supports smallholder farmers with resources and fair wages that simplify and transform a flawed food system into one that is equitable and regenerative – good for the planet, people and producers.
When he’s not on the road, Matt resides in Philadelphia with Sarela and their two children, Valentina and Leonardo, and enjoys spending time traveling, trying new cuisines, outdoor adventures, golfing and playing pickleball.
