"Jingle Bells" is NOT a Christmas Song ! What holiday was it written for?

  • "Jingle Bells" is a timeless holiday classic - but it was NEVER written to become a Christmas classic! People have confused it with the wrong holiday! The song was originally written in 1857 by James Lord Pierpont, and his intention was for it to be enjoyed and sung at Thanksgiving. Now there was no radio or stereo system to even play the song on in 1856-1857. Abraham Lincoln hadn't even been elected President yet. The original title of the song was "One Horse Open Sleigh" and it was inspired by sleigh races that were popular in the town of Medford, Massaschusetts and there is NO mention whatsoever of Christmas in the lyrics.
