This cold case turned hot thanks to DNA technology developed over the past thirty five years since this crime originally happened in Fairfax County, Virginia.
A piece of trash, impersonating a professional Radio D.J., to convince not only a teen girl into trusting him, but the girl's mother as well. In this elaborate scheme, he said he was trying to award a prize. Now it looks like police are the real winners, after thirty five years of searching, capturing the suspect who they believe committed these violent offenses.
Police had DNA evidence the perpetrator left behind and over the years, they NEVER stopped looking for the match, investigating over 70 potential suspects. Last Wednesday, Fairfax County police released the info that they have finally made an arrest in the 1987 case, crediting the use of forensic genealogy.
“Here we stand in 2022 announcing that a violent, vicious criminal who perpetrated this heinous act on a 14-year-old girl is now in custody … and finally being held accountable for his crimes three and a half decades ago,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis told reporters during a news conference Wednesday. Good work Fairfax County Police!
