Looks like there WILL BE major league baseball this Summer in empty stadiums and there will be lots of other differences too but at least there will be baseball, I hope!
Fourth of July weekend - but players would need to agree to revenue split
- MLB owners are green lighting a proposal to the players' union that could lead to the coronavirus-delayed season starting in empty stadiums around July 4
- League officials are slated to make a presentation to the union on Tuesday
- An agreement with the players' association is needed. Talks are expected to be difficult - especially over a proposal for an unprecedented revenue split
- Baseball players have refused to consider even the frameworks for the type of revenue splits that have been agreed to by unions in the NFL, NBA and NHL
- After June's spring training, each team would play about 82 regular-season games against opponents in its own division as well as some interleague play
- Postseason play would be expanded from 10 clubs to 14 by doubling wild cards in each league to four. The National League would adopt the designated hitter
- The Toronto Blue Jays might have to play home games in Dunedin, Florida
And what a GREAT day to get the news Baseball is planning to return!
