Hollywood movie exec wanted Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman. What?

Julia Roberts almost got cast in the lead role of the Harriet Tubman bio-pic.

Harriet Tubman escaped slavery before the Civil War and helped dozens more reach freedom through the Underground Railroad.

A Hollywood studio executive suggested Julia Roberts would be the perfect actress in that role. When the film’s screenwriter said that Julia Roberts couldn’t play Harriet Tubman, the exec reportedly said, “The Civil War was so long ago. No one is going to know the difference.” (Entertainment Weekly)

Attention Hollywood. Harriet Tubman escaped slavery before the Civil War and helped hundreds more reach freedom through the Underground Railroad making trip after trip from North of the Mason-Dixon Line in the Free State of Pennsylvania back to the plantation fields in the South.Risking everything she walked, ran, crawled and whatever else was needed to escape capture and certain death if caught by furious slave owners.

How anyone could be so insensitive to think anyone other than an African- American could protray this civil rights hero is noth only ignorant of history but completely out of touch.

If you haven't seen Harriet yet, believe me - you need too. You may even recognize a Country star in the movie who does do a great job in her role as a villian plantation owner's wife. Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland plays Eliza, the wife of Edward Brodess, the plantation owner.
