411: Harry & Meghan Bombshell Announcement, Bieber Confirms Lyme Disease

Harry & Meghan Stepping Back As “Senior Royals;” Buckingham Palace Blindsided

  • Harry & Meghan dropped a bombshell yesterday via Instagram—the Duke & Duchess of Sussex plan to step back as “senior royals” and split their time between the UK & North America
  • They also said they plan to “work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."
  • The Buckingham Palace released what’s being categorized as a “terse” statement, “Discussions with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through”
  • By various accounts, Harry & Meghan didn’t consult anyone in the royal family before making the announcement, including Harry’s father Prince Charles & Grandmother Queen Elizabeth
  • The Buckingham Palace was blindsided and hurt and this “step back” further confirms the rift between the Duke & Duchess and the royal family
  • This announcement comes on the heels of Harry & Meghan spending the Christmas holiday in Canada, not the UK, and their very vocal and legal battle with the press for what Harry calls “bullying” Meghan
