  • The wildfires in Australia have completely devastated the region; the fire has claimed at least 12 million acres of land, 1400 homes, 23 people & half a billion animals
  • Celebrities are coming out in full force to show their support by donating to the Australian fire departments
  • Pink has pledged $500,000 while Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban have donated $500,000 as well
  • Nicole & Keith’s house is currently under threat, and Nicole was reportedly seen crying last night at the Golden Globes

Golden Globes Recap

  • Rickey Gervais hosted for the 5th time and tore into everyone and everything
  • He went after Felicity Huffman and the college admissions scandal, called out Leonardo DiCaprio for dating a 23 year old, referred to Joe Pesci as Baby Yoda, and worked in a joke about Jeffrey Epstein. He also made quite a crude joke about Dame Judi Dench and her role in CATS—he kept adding “this is the last time it doesn’t matter” as this is his 5th time hosting and doesn’t expect to be back
  • Tom Hanks accepted the Cecil B. deMille Award, celebrating his amazing acting career, while Ellen DeGeneres accepted the Carol Burnett Award for excellence in television

As far as television winners go:

  • The first surprise of the night was when Ramy Youssef beat big names like Paul Rudd, Bill Hader and Michael Douglas for Best Actor for his role in Hulu’s “Ramy.” (he acknowledged no one knew he was or his show by stating “I know none of you have seen my show”)
  • Olivia Coleman won Best Actress for her role in “The Crown.”
  • Best Drama went to HBO’s “Succession” with Brian Cox earning Best Actor for his starring role.
  • Amazon’s “Fleabag” won Best comedy, which also nabbed Phoebe Waller-Bridge the trophy for Best Actress

As far as movie winners go:

  • Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood won big taking home 3 awards three awards-- Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. Brad Pitt was named Best Supporting Actor and director Quentin Tarantino took home Best Screenplay
  • Best Motion Picture - Drama went to the World War I flick 1917 and Sam Mendes was named Best Director
  • Taron Egerton was named Best Actor - Musical or Comedy for the Elton John bio-pic Rocketman
  • Renee Zellweger nabbed Best Actor - Drama for playing Judy Garland in Judy
  • Joaquin Phoenix was named Best Actor - Drama for Joker & his expletive filled speech was a little tough to follow

Box Office Recap

  • The only new release this weekend, the latest installment of the horror flick “The Grudge” did okay, $11 million for the 4th spot
  • “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” kept its throne at the top of the box office from New Year’s Day throughout the weekend, raking in another $33-million
  • Jumanji was 2nd with another $26.5 million, Little Women came in 3rd with $13.6 million, and Frozen II is officially the biggest animated movie of all time with a worldwide gross of over $1.3 billion
