DA Doubles Down On Dropping Smollett Charges

  • Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx is defending her office’s handling of Jussie Smollett’s case
  • She says this is how the law works and critics just don't understand the "intricacies of the justice system" or "alternative prosecution or diversion or alternate outcomes outside of prison or lengthy probation"
  • Basically he was let off the hook because no violent crime was committed by Smollett and he forfeited him $10,000 bond and performed community service & the prosecutors office says their #1 priority is violent crime
  • But here’s the story with Kim Foxx—she ended up recusing herself from this case after she had contact with Smollett’s family in the early days of the investigation; apparently they were concerned with how the case was being handled in the public eye
  • After her recusal? Foxx apparently tried to persuade Chicago cops to turn the case over to the FBI – at the family’s request via a woman named Tina, a family friend of Smollett’s and who Foxx used to work with
  • She swears she had no influence on the charges being dropped
