Aretha Franklin, the iconic soul singer whose career spanned more than 5 decades, has passed away at the age of 76.
She passed away Thursday morning surrounded by family & friends in her Detroit area home.
Statement as of this morning, "Franklin's official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine typoe, which was confirmed by Franklin's oncologist, Dr. Phillip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute."
Franklin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010 and had various health issues over the last 8 years. She cancelled a series of shows last year citing health reasons. Her last public performance was Elton John's AIDS Foundation Gala in New York City on November 7th.
No funeral arrangements have been announced.
