Weather Authority Alert: Baltimore for Potentially Historic Snowfall

🦅 Fox 45 Weather Authority: Baltimore Bullseye for Historic Snow

Baltimore City & Central Maryland | Updated: Friday, Jan 23, 2026

The Fox 45 Weather Authority is tracking what could be Baltimore’s most significant snow event in a decade. Governor Wes Moore has declared a State of Emergency for Maryland, and the National Guard has already been mobilized to assist with what is expected to be "near-impossible" travel.

The Breakdown for Baltimore, Anne Arundel, and Harford

  1. The Bullseye: Baltimore is positioned to stay in the "cold sector" longer than D.C. This means the city could see 8 to 14 inches of pure, powdery snow before any mixing occurs late Sunday.
  2. Wind Chill Danger: Sub-zero wind chills are expected Friday night and Saturday. The "blowing snow" will lead to whiteout conditions on I-83 and I-95.
  3. Road Closures: The MDTA will temporarily close the I-95 Express Toll Lanes on Saturday to allow plows to stage and clear the main lines more effectively.

Critical Safety Measures

  • Code Blue: Baltimore City has activated Code Blue protocols. If you see someone in need of shelter, call 311.
  • Generator Safety: If you lose power, NEVER run a generator in your garage or near a window. Keep it 20 feet away to avoid carbon monoxide.
  • Vehicle Survival: If you must travel and get stuck, stay with your car. Clear your tailpipe of snow every hour to ensure you can safely run the engine for 10 minutes of heat.
