Potential Delays and Closures Friday 1/19

Winter Weather Advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service in anticipation of Friday's snow. The advisory is set to commence at 4 a.m. on Friday in the D.C. Metro area and will persist until 7 p.m. Accumulations of snowfall ranging from 1 to 3 inches are possible, with the most significant impacts expected during the morning hours. Plan for potential delays and closures on Friday, as light snow is likely to impact the morning commute.

This afternoon, temperatures are expected to rise above 32 degrees for the first time since Sunday. Looking ahead, snow showers will develop moving from west to east, reaching inside the Beltway by 4 a.m. With temperatures hovering around freezing, the snow is likely to adhere to the ground and untreated road surfaces. Accumulations will be around 1 inch in the D.C. areas, while regions north and west of the District could see 2-3 inches of snow by day's end.

Additionally, a pattern change is anticipated next week, with high temperatures on Tuesday returning to the upper 40s and reaching highs in the upper 50s by the end of the week.
