Summer is coming, but with rising fees and fewer flight options because of soaring jet fuel prices, travelers are trying to figure out where they can book a vacation within their budget. While some places may just be too pricey this year, a new study crunches the numbers to find the most expensive summer vacation spots, and which are most affordable.

  • The research from MoneyLion analyzes the cost at different destinations for a getaway from June 12th to 19th, including seven nights in a hotel and airfare for four people.
  • Hotel costs were determined using an average of the three cheapest hotels within five miles of the location’s downtown, and the total trip cost uses the average total cost for airfare, hotel, meals and drinks.
  • If you’re still trying to decide where to go this summer, but want to keep it on the cheap, you may want to cross Anchorage, Alaska, off your list of options.
  • It’s the most expensive destination in the study, costing $6,861 for a family of four. That includes over $2-thousand for meals, nearly $2-thousand for hotels, and over $2-thousand for airfare.
  • Fortunately, the study finds that there are still plenty of budget-friendly destinations in the U.S.
  • Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is the most affordable overall, where a week-long trip for four only costs $3,138. That’s $1,862 for meals, just $602 for a hotel, and less than $500 for flights.
