Cars can be money pits, especially brand new ones that start losing value as soon as you drive them off the dealer lot. Buying a used car can save you a ton of money, but it can be risky, since you can’t always tell what condition it’s in and what you’ll soon need to pay to repair. But Consumer Reports is here to help with their first-ever ranking of the most reliable used cars.
- The nonprofit research and advocacy group rated 26 car brands, based in part on surveys from its members about problems they’ve had with their vehicles in the previous year.
- This report focuses on cars from the model years 2014 to 2019 and includes more than 150-thousand vehicles.
- Consumer Reports notes that reliability can vary from year to year and model to model, pointing out, “It's best to check the reliability ratings for each model year.”
- Topping the list as the best used car for reliability is Lexus, with Toyota in a close second.
- At the bottom of the list is Chrysler (26th), making it the least reliable used car brand, followed by Dodge and Tesla.
