Target announced yesterday that it will close nine stores in four states due to theft and organized retail crime. The list of stores closing includes one in New York City’s East Harlem neighborhood, three in Portland, Oregon, two in Seattle, and three in the San Francisco Bay area. The chain cited concerns for the safety of its customers and employees in deciding to close the stores but said it will still have a combined 150 stores open in those markets. The closings are effective October 21st, and employees affected by the closures will be given the opportunity to transfer to other stores.
