Some people like to leave old airline stickers or tags on their luggage as a memento of their previous travels, but it could be causing a major problem at the airport. Thanks to an employee at the Ontario International Airport, we’re finding out why this mistake may lead to your luggage getting lost.
“Let’s say you flew American, and then a month later, you flew Southwest,” the unnamed worker says while unloading luggage in a recent video shared to the airport’s TikTok. “Well, there’s a little sticker that goes on for American that tells the computer it should go there. So if your month-old American sticker is on there, there’s a chance it scans instead of this one.” And that means your bag could end up in the wrong place and not get on your plane.
The video has racked up nearly half a million views and 20-thousand likes, with hundreds of comments praising this advice as much-needed. A lot of TikTokers admit that they always assumed airport workers would take off the tags or stickers that were a problem. One user sums it up by commenting, “WHERE has this man with this information been our whole lives?!!!! This is NEED TO KNOW INFORMATION!”
