A couple in Westminster, Maryland, is using art to promote kindness in their community. Back in 2020, Eric Miller read a negative news story that inspired him to make a sign and put it up in their small town of Westminster, 30 miles northwest of Baltimore. The message on the sign was simple: Be Kind. And the message resonated with their neighbors. “People liked it,” Miller says. “It gave people hope.”

The custom woodworker and his partner Tina Thomas made more of the Be Kind signs, eventually turning their passion into a business called the Infinite Love Project. Now they’re hand painting and installing the signs all over the greater Baltimore area. The signs come in a variety of designs, are available in seven different languages, and the couple believes the signs are making a difference. “The signs are helping to connect positive people doing positive things,” Tina says.

They sell their Be Kind signs online and also host free events where people can come and paint their own signs. Miller hopes their little local kindness project will one-day have a greater impact. "If everybody becomes just a little bit kinder to themselves, their housemates, their neighbors, and strangers,” he explains, “The ripple effect is going to be amazing.”
