I had no idea that I was doing it wrong. I have been using a salad spinner for years and my routine is to add the salad to the basket to rinse and then spin to get rid of the extra water. Turns out that if you want to remove sand and dirt the way to do it is to put the basket in the bowl and soak out the dirt and such. Here's how.
