After launching a pilot program in June, a public security official in China announced yesterday that the country will roll out digital driver’s licenses by 2022.Li Guozhong, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security, says over 1.95 million people have a digital license from a pilot program launched in three cities on June 1.
It may sound strange, but digital licenses can be used for a lot of things, including filing insurance claims, renting vehicles, accidents, and more; Li says the new digital document will have the same legal effect as a paper license.
