The Sacramento Kings have reportedly fired head coach Mike Brown, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Shams Charania on Friday (December 17).

Brown, 54, who was hired by Sacramento in 2022, signed a three-year extension this past offseason after leading the Kings to their first postseason berth since 2006, however, the team is currently facing a five-game losing streak and has lost 12 of its last 17 games.

"Kings fire Mike Brown in the midst of a five-game losing streak, 12 of last 17, and have lost an NBA-high 13 clutch time games this season. Brown won Coach of the Year in 2022-23 when he led the Kings to the postseason, snapping a U.S. sports-record 17-year playoff drought," Charania wrote on his X account. "Mike Brown signed a three-year extension through 2027 with the Kings in June. Let go just over six months later, amid a 13-18, 12th place start to a season with playoff expectations."

Brown is coming off his second NBA Coach of the Year season, having previously won the award during his first of two tenures with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009. The Ohio native also worked as the Los Angeles Lakers' head coach from 2011 to 2012, as well as serving as an associate head coach for the Golden State Warriors from 2016 to 2022, which included winning four NBA championships.

Brown has a regular season head coaching record of 441-286, as well as a playoff record of 50-40.
