Alexandra Kay shared her stunning rendition of “I’m Gonna Love You,” a heartfelt duet that Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood released earlier this year. The ballad is one of 13 new tracks that appears on Johnson’s deluxe edition of his latest studio album, Leather.
Kay, known by longtime social media followers for her “coffee covers,” and guitarist Rocko Beall covered “I’m Gonna Love You” together as Kay poured two mugs of coffee. She’s previously covered songs by LeAnn Rimes, Tim McGraw, Kacey Musgraves and other artists. Kay’s latest rendition also follows a “made it moment” when she joined Jelly Roll on the Beautifully Broken star’s arena tour this year. Kay said she’ll “never forget” when she joined Jelly Roll on stage in the pouring rain to sing Lainey Wilson’s part in “Save Me.”
“I’m Gonna Love You” was written by Chris Stevens, Kelly Archer and Travis Denning and produced by Trent Willmon. Johnson previously said “from the moment I heard this song, I heard Carrie’s voice on it. It was a non-negotiable for me; either we sing it together, or I wouldn’t sing it at all. It’s that special to me.” Underwood made a surprise appearance at the 58th CMA Awards last month to perform the duet with Johnson on the Bridgestone Arena stage in Nashville, Tennessee.
