We’re coming up on Labor Day Weekend, and it looks like it has the potential to be a record-breaker when it comes to air travel. Here are a few tips from the TSA on how to make your time on the security lines at the airport more efficient.
- Pack Smart – Start with an empty carry-on bag, and make sure you check with the “what can I bring” list for what can, and can’t, be in that bag. If you can “spill it, spray it, pump it, or pour it,” then it must be in a checked bag. The only exceptions are items that are for feeding babies or medical necessities
- Arrive Early – Don’t be one of those last-minute goofballs who resent everyone else for holding them up. Show up early, get through, and relax before your flight
- Bring Your ID – It’s a mandatory part of the process. Triple-check that you have it before you leave the house
- Firearms – It’s shocking that this still needs to be said, but firearms, ammo, weapons like knives, swords, Ninja throwing stars, box cutters, and any other kind of weapon will be confiscated, and you might never see them again
- Technology – There’s always new technology. You don’t have to participate in facial recognition if you choose not to, but you’ll still have to go through another form of manual screening. Get over it
- TSA PreCheck – It’s less than $100, and can get you through the lines faster…and you won’t have to take off your shoes or belt
- Support – Call ahead if you’re going to need a wheelchair or some other form of support from the airport staff. They’ll be waiting for you when you arrive
- Respect – No one is “out to get you.” The TSA agents are just doing their job. If people respect the process and don’t act like jack-holes, it all moves much faster
