Living in a wealthy community may be good for your stress levels, new research suggests. While many of us have stressful lives, it turns out, where we live can make a big difference. LawnStarter’s report on the Most Relaxed Cities in the U.S. has just come out and many of them are in affluent areas.

  • For the study, researchers compared 500 cities across the country on 43 stress-related factors including mental, physical and financial wellbeing, work, environmental and social stressors and divorce rates.
  • Cities were also rated on quality of life metrics like housing affordability and the length of an average work day.
  • The median household income in the top 10 cities is $121-thousand or more, which is a lot higher than that of the country overall, about $75-thousand.
  • The most relaxed city this year is Newton, Massachusetts. The Boston suburb comes in fourth for both financial wellbeing and social stressors.
  • California dominates the top 10 with six cities.
  • The city with the highest mental wellbeing rank is Milpitas, California, which is fourth overall, while Sunnyvale, California, second overall, is number one for physical wellbeing.
  • The least relaxed city in the country is Flint, Michigan, followed by Detroit and Dayton, Ohio.
