Mickey Guyton was overjoyed to announce that she’ll get to sing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LVI, and she just took to social media to share how she got the news. Guyton was on a video call with producer Jesse Collins, who began singing for the “Remember Her Name” artist.

“What do you think so far?” Colins asked, and Guyton replied that she could “work with that.” Collins continued: “OK, well I could do that, or let me tell you what it is and maybe I’ll get somebody else to sing it. It is the National Anthem at next year’s Super Bowl. So, it’s either gonna be me or you.” That’s when Guyton couldn’t contain a scream of excitement. Collins shared the video on his own Instagram account after the news was announced on Tuesday (February 1), assuring that Guyton’s acceptance “saved the world’s ears! …Can’t wait to watch you perform the national anthem and [Jhené Aiko] we are super excited to see you bring the vibes to America The Beautiful!”

Guyton shared the video on her own social media channels on Wednesday (February 2): “Woke up this morning still in disbelief that I’m singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl!!! This is how I found out. Thank you [Jesse Collins] for making this black girl from Texas dreams come true. 🥺”
