NASCAR made an announcement today that many may not have seen coming. The organization has decided to ban the confederate flag from all of its events and properties.
If you've ever been to a NASCAR event, or seen one on TV, you know that the flag is often pretty prevalent. This is a big move that has upset a lot of fans who argue that the flag stands for history and not racism.
Personally, I'm all for it. I still don't understand why the confederate flag exists outside of museums and history books. Do any other countries still fly the flag of the losing side in a war? I don't see French flags flying in Austria. How about British flags flying in France? Or Nazi flags in just about all of Europe? It doesn't happen. Only in America. Maybe not for long, though.
