Chris Young Speaks Out On Racism In America: 'I Can't Just Stay Silent'

People around the country continue to protest against racial inequality in America following the death of George Floyd, a black man who was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis. Country music singer, Chris Young, has decided to speak out about the recent events with a message on social media.

"The death of George Floyd is heartbreaking," Young's message reads. "The circumstances are terrifying. Period. I don’t know how we fix this, but this is something we HAVE to fix."

He continues, "Racism is NOT something that should be ignored, and is something that should not exist. Sorry, but I can't just stay silent on this."

The day after sharing his message, Young posted a black square to his Instagram page along with thousands of others in an effort to support Blackout Tuesday on social media. The initiative was meant to amplify black voices and continue to draw attention to the racial injustices in the United States.

Young is just one of many celebrities and artists speaking up about the issue on social media. Fellow country music singer, Tim McGraw, shared his own message over the weekend.

"I believe that love, respect and understanding of each other is a light to guide our way," his message says. "Our collective heart should break with every injustice brought to light. Our collective voices should be heard for each and every injustice brought to light, for there are many in the darkness."

"We must find a way to shine light on what is happening," McGraw continues. "Find a way to talk, find a way to understand, find a way to hold accountable those who won't see, won't understand and won't love."

Additionally, Kacey Musgraves, Kane Brown, Dan + Shay, Old Dominion, Darius Rucker and more have also expressed similar sentiments on social media.
