Trey Mancini Diagnosed With Stage 3 Colon Cancer, Undergoing Chemo

Birdland is here for you, Trey 🧡

On Tuesday, April 28, Orioles' outfielder Trey Mancini revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer and has started chemotherapy.

Mancini shared the news via an essay that he wrote for The Players Tribune titled "I Am So Lucky." He began his 6-months of chemo on April 13 and will go every two weeks. Mancini wrote immediately following that "If baseball returns in 2020, it will probably be without me."

"Chemo in the age of COVID-19 is crazy," Mancini wrote. "I’m getting chemo at a hospital in Baltimore, and I have to drive up there alone. Nobody is allowed to come in with me, and that’s completely fine by me. I don’t want anybody else being put at risk — people that are close to me and that I love, and other people in the hospital."

While the news isn't what anyone wants to hear, Mancini reminded readers that he is doing OK and is looking ahead to the future.
