Out of the 50 states in America, Maryland ranked 50th in terms of what state people should retire in.
Bankrate created the list based on the following: affordability, crime, culture, weather, & wellness, which are all important factors to retirees. In those categories, Maryland ranked 47th, 33rd, 42nd, 18th and 37th respectively, which collectively placed the Old Line State dead last in the official ranking.
MD's neighbors ranked towards the middle with Pennsylvania taking the 34th spot and Virginia placing 39th. The best state to retire in however? Nebraska. According to Bankrate, wellness and affordability held the most weight and Nebraska ranked 8th and 14th in those categories.
