Emily Emerick, Executive Director - Ladew Gardens
September 12, 2023
On this week's episode of WTN, I'm joined by Emily Emerich, Commissioner of Ladew Gardens! Emily gives me the back story on Ladew and how it came to be, what there is to experience at the gardens, various upcoming events, and more! We also touched on the importance of green spaces, especially during times like the pandemic, and how we can support Ladew's efforts!
Emily has been the Executive Director of Ladew Topiary Gardens for over 21 years, during which time she has overseen the creation of the native Butterfly House; restoration of four of Ladew’s historic garden rooms; historic restorations of the Drawing Room, Master Bedroom, Oval Library, Kitchen and Tea House; and enhancements to the Nature Walk. During her tenure, Ladew has had a significant expansion of programming to meet the interests and needs of close to 50,000 visitors annually and a 3-fold growth in organizational budget. Emily came to Ladew following a career in fundraising for a variety of nonprofits in Baltimore and Washington. A Maryland native, Emily grew up in the Baltimore suburbs and now lives in Monkton with her husband David, four dogs, and ever-expanding gardens.
