The public isn’t too pleased with a tourist who was caught on video carving what appears to be his and his girlfriend’s name into the walls of the Roman Colosseum. The guy appears to have used keys to carve “Ivan + Hayley 23” into the nearly 2,000-year-old building. Not surprisingly, this stunt has been met with outrage online with some calling for his passport to be revoked. However, it could end up worse than that. According to the law in Italy, the guy responsible for defacing a World Heritage Site could face a fine of up to nearly $22,000 and possible jail time. The same thing happened back in 2015 when two American tourists were charged with “aggravated damage to a building of historical and artistic interest,” and reportedly had to cough up a hefty fine.
