Sounding a little frustrated with how things have changed, Dierks told Taste of Country, "Quite honestly, there’s a lot more behind me than there are ahead of me just because I feel like we’ve moved into such a different world, album-wise. I still listen to albums. I still have vinyl. I was texting with a guy, a friend of mine up in Kentucky. He’s like “Man, my wife and kids are gone I’m just blasting your music in the house.” I was like, “Give me your address, I’ll send you a CD.” Then you realize, what’s he gonna do with a CD? I just got my first new car ever and it doesn’t have a CD player in it. What do you send people anymore? A link to Apple Music or Spotify? I don’t even know how it works anymore. I think this whole process is changing so rapidly I’m just so grateful to have 10 albums out there. I’ll always try to make my music in a way that’s a compilation of something. That’s just all I’m really interested in. I’m not really interested in just dropping singles."
Is Dierks is letting Nashville REALLY know how he feels about Nashville Country music in a track on his new album , "Gravel and Gold". You might know that Dierks has NEVER won Entertainer of the Year or even Male Vocalist at the CMA or ACM Awards and he thinks being banned from Grand Ole Opry was a blessing in the end because it pushed him in a different direction.
Dierks has been a member of the Opry since 2005, However, he was officially banned way before he ever became an artist believe it or not. Dierks had a job in TV working for , The Nashville Network, which had studios and offices at Opryland in Nashville. Direks would sneak backstage to hang out with the bands playing the Grand Ole Opry which was not in his job description. Eventually, the general manager of the Opry noticed and had his access to the backstage area restricted and locked him out of the Grand Ole Opry all together.
These days Dierks says “We leave the door to our dressing room wide open so people can come in and say hi,” said Bentley of his Opry performances today. “And, if we’re not getting ready, then I want to be out on the stage watching the other bands—just remembering what it feels like to be part of the audience. I don’t ever want to lose that feeling of being a fan.”
Here are the lyrics to the new song on his album he'll be singing on the the Opry this Friday night March 3rd!
"Something Real"
[Verse 1]
Sometimes a crowd makes me lonely
Sometimes a shot just makes me sad
Sometimes I miss that old small town, slow down
Life I kinda wish that I still had
I can't really pour my heart out
On the FM radio
'Cause the way I'm really feeling
Won't fill up the coliseum, on the edge of Tupelo
[Chorus]
Yeah, I need a little backbone in my backbeat
I need a little lifelong in my front seat
I need the kinda moments that make my whole wide world stand still
I wanna hear about a deep cut, a heartbreak
Yeah, tell me 'bout your hard timеs, your mistakes
Give me somеthing that'll burn, I can turn into something I can feel
Yeah, I want somethin' real, somethin' real
[Verse 2]
I like a long drive down a backroad
Pretty girl sitting at a bar
But those roads don't go forever
Pickup lines don't always get her
And that neon just goes dark
I wanna climb up on a mountain
I want a love that feels like home
Yeah, I want a conversation
Like a sunset and a song, I can feel down in my bones
[Chorus]
Yeah, I need a little backbone in my backbeat
I need a little lifelong in my front seat
I need the kinda moments that make my whole wide world stand still
I wanna hear about a deep cut, a heartbreak
Yeah, tell me 'bout your hard times, your mistakes
Give me somethin' that'll burn, I can turn into somethin' I can feel
[Bridge]
Yeah, I want something real strong
Yeah, something I can hold onto
When the red dirt settles down
And there's nothing left around
I'm just lookin' for some truth
I'm just lookin' for some truth
[Bridge]
Yeah, I want something real strong
Yeah, something I can hold onto
When the red dirt settles down
And there's nothing left around
I'm just lookin' for some truth
I'm just lookin' for some truth
