A world without Shania? Say it ain't so!
The country trailblazer caught up with TalkShopLive ahead of the release of Queen of Me, her upcoming sixth studio album and the first she's recorded since undergoing open-throat surgery in 2018. Twain opened up about the potential ramifications of having to undergo several invasive throat surgeries as a result of battling Lyme disease.
"For me, this album means so, so much about my decision-making and the courage to get the operation, knowing that I may never even be able to sing again after the surgery," Twain said in the interview. "So that was a big decision." She revealed the album finally came together as a result of pushing herself through the "fear zone" as she calls it after originally planning to write less challenging songs [vocally] as a result of the surgery.
The 5x CMA winner explained she had to "relearn" as she created "Queen of Me" which she calls her "most meaningful album yet" especially "vocal performance-wise."
"With age, it could just not hold up, and that could be it," Twain said, adding that another surgery isn't out of the question.
"I'll have to make another decision," she continued. "Will I do the operation again or not? Do I just now write music for other people's albums at that point? I will gladly do that, and, again, it will be another decision that I will have to make as the queen of me. Some decisions are tougher than others."
Twain also admitted she doesn't know if the procedure she got will last forever but she's in good spirits and feels "more energetic than I have in such a long time."
Queen of Me is set for release on February 3rd and Twain's highly anticipated tour, which will span North America and Europe, kicks off in April of 2023.
