Just one day after giving birth, a Louisiana woman receives her college degree in a ceremony at the hospital. On Friday night, Jada Sayles went into labor just hours before she was set to graduate from Dillard University in New Orleans. Sayles texted the outgoing president of the university, Walter M Kimbrough, saying she’d been admitted to the hospital and would miss the graduation.
On Saturday, Sayles delivered her baby boy and then the next day she got another surprise when Kimbrough came to the hospital to perform a private graduation ceremony in her hospital room. “I did something today I have never done before in 18 years as a college president,” Kimbrough shared in a tweet. “I conferred a degree in a hospital.”
Sayles took to Twitter to share pics of her special day. “I thought I was gonna walk across the stage to get my degree, instead I got my baby,” she tweeted. “My sweet face decided to make his way on MY big day (now his). Shoutout to my university for still bringing my graduation and degree to me.”
