An Atlanta mom used the Find My iPhone app to help police locate her son after he was abducted during a carjacking. On the morning of April 4th, Jerrica Moore pulled into a parking lot and stepped out of her running car for a second when a man jumped in it and drove off with her nine-year-old son still in the backseat.
Moore called 911 and Atlanta police responded immediately. Using the Find My iPhone app on her phone, Moore was able to track her son’s iPhone and relay real-time location information to the police. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and the Fulton County Police were called in to assist. In less than an hour from the initial call, a police helicopter spotted the stolen car and a GSP trooper on the ground used his cruiser to stop the vehicle. Officers then swooped in, arresting the suspect without incident and rescuing the boy.
Atlanta police released bodycam footage of the incident on their Facebook page. The officers in the video show great compassion toward the child and great restraint toward the suspected kidnapper. After being checked out by medical professionals, the boy was found to be unharmed physically and was reunited with his mother. The suspect was detained and charged with kidnapping, child cruelty, and theft.
