Ocean City Considers Ban On Short-Term Home Rentals

Ocean City Considers Ban On Short-Term Home Rentals

Ocean City officials are meeting today to discuss a potential ban on allowing home owners to rent out their homes for short-term periods. Under new restrictions, homeowners would only be allowed to rent their homes for long-term stays.

The ban would be for certain neighborhoods, including Mallard Island, Caine Woods, Montego Bay and Little Salisbury.

The potential ban stems from complaints from homeowners- typically from full-time residents- about crowds and loud noise during the summer months from renters. Since January 2013, Ocean City has received 67 complaints, including 13 complaints about rental properties.

Many homeowners say this infringes upon their rights, and some say it could hurt the city's tourism as well.
