The rings may have failed but the opening weekend of this year's Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia, did not disappoint.  Team USA lived up to the hype in snowboarding slopestyle taking the gold in both the men's and women's events.  Congratulations to Sage Kotsenburg and Jamie Anderson.

The US squad also grabbed a bronze medal in the team figureskating event.  They put in a valiant effort but it wasn't enough to top the Russian squad featuring Yevgeny Plushenko and 15-year-old phenom Yulia Lipnitskaya.

So far, American skier Bode Miller has been the only major disappointment finishing 8th in his downhill race.  The United States wrapped up the weekend with 4 overall mdeals and currently sit in third in the standings.  Here's what the standings look like.
